Albany Burn Injury Lawyers

Every 30 minutes someone in the United States suffers from a burn injury. The cause of a burn injury varies, but the outcome in some instances is the same – pain and suffering or death.

The Cost of Medical Assistance

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that fire and burn injuries represent 2% of the total cost of all injuries that occur in this country each year. This amounts to $7.5 billion in medical expenses. Depending on the type of burn and the circumstances (such as a chemical burn, or burn from a car accident) skin graft surgeries, rehabilitation and therapy are frequently required to restore the health and well-being of an individual.

Those who are negligent in following rules that protect the safety of other individuals should be held liable for damages. The injury lawyers at Anderson, Moschetti and Taffany Law have decades of experience in assisting those with burn injury claims. With their assistance, you can get much-needed compensation to pay for medical expenses, lost wages and to compensate you for pain and suffering.

Types of Burns

There are three main types or classifications of burns:

  • Thermal burns – The most common type of burn, a thermal burn comes from an increase in temperature often due to flame or hot liquid.
  • Chemical burns – Acids, alkalis and other caustic compounds are what create chemical burns. These injuries occur when the chemical comes in contact with the skin or eyes.
  • Electrical burns – When an electrical current passes through the body, the resulting contact creates a burn through the layers of skin on the body.

And as you may already be aware of, there are varying degrees of burns which determine the severity of a burn injury. These include:

  • First degree – Also known as superficial burns, this classification is designated to minor topical or outer layer burn.
  • Second degree – The second layer of skin along with the first is damaged in a second degree burn, creating painful blisters and redness of the skin.
  • Third degree – The most severe classification for burns, third degree destroys the first two layers of skin, possibly damaging bones, muscle tissue and tendons. Nerve endings may be destroyed and extensive surgery may be needed to prevent fatality.
